ubuntu garden

The garden was created in spring 2024 with two main purposes: to grow pesticide-free home produce and to provide a learning-through-play space for children's workshops. During these workshops, children learned about planting various crops including strawberries, potatoes, beans, and flowers. The garden proved to be abundantly productive, providing an endless supply of vegetables and nasturtium flowers, which were later harvested to make ubuntu garden's first natural remedy—Nasturtium Tincture.

The ambition for this growing space is to explore alternative cultivation methods. In December, preparations began for experimenting with a 'no-till' approach. The planters were layered with sticks, cardboard, and manure, then covered with black fleece before the snowfall. This method aims to minimize disruption to the soil ecosystem, improve water retention (especially during hot periods at high altitude), and potentially increase crop yields for a future vegetable box scheme.

Spring 2025, we hope to have a water well and install a water system. In other areas of the property there are plans for rain water catchment

nasturtium tincture

Creating a nasturtium tincture is a simple yet rewarding process that captures the natural benefits of this vibrant herb. ubuntu garden had an abundance of fresh nasturtium leaves and flowers that were planted to protect the vegetables. At the end of the season, the flowers were collected and placed in large jars of alcohol to steep for 6 weeks, allowing the active compounds to fully infuse.

The tincture has antibacterial and antiviral properties, supports immune health, aids digestion, and soothes inflammation. This natural remedy offers a practical way to harness the therapeutic power of nasturtium, making it a versatile addition to your wellness routine.
